Creating Habits: Celebrate Your Progress
Celebrating your progress is so important when forming new habits because it helps acknowledge your hard work and dedication. It’s an act of self-recognition that reminds you how far you’ve come and it reinforces the value of your efforts. Oftentimes, we’re a little too strict with ourselves, we keep thinking of what we still need to change, adjust, work on etc. When you take the time to mindfully appreciate your achievements, it can really deepen the connection between your actions and your personal growth.
Example
Imagine you've committed to a daily yoga practice. Instead of focusing on external rewards, make it a habit to celebrate your dedication internally at the end of each session. Take a few moments to sit quietly, close your eyes, and genuinely commend yourself for the effort. Reflect on the positive changes you're experiencing, like increased flexibility, better understanding of your needs, or simply the joy of having taken time for yourself.
You might also acknowledge your progress by journaling about your experience. Write down what felt good, what was challenging, and how you are evolving through the practice.
By mindfully acknowledging your efforts and celebrating internally, you create a positive feedback loop that not only makes the habit much more enjoyable.
